How to be empty?
How to be a body of action?
How to become another?
𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 is a study of consciousness - our capacity to be aware and know what's happening - and the body - our ability to act and move in/as the world, together with other(s) - all within the framwork of Contact Improvisation
Without Emptiness, Action is deaf and blind.
Emptiness is the pregnant space within ourselves where Clarity is born.
Clarity is our capacity to clearly know what is happening now and foresee what is just about to happen.
Without Action, Emptiness becomes too vague, distant, passive, powerless, disengaged.
Action is the gift of the body. It is the way we participate and enter the conversation,
our capacity to engage when we have something to say, to join or to oppose, our voice, in this case speaking
in movement, direction, breath and sound, ready to shape the co-emerging future.
The synthesis of this workshop is perhaps the symbol of the Yin-Yang.
During the weekend we will be learning to play both black and white, day and night,
exploring the most active yang and the most receptive yin aspects of self, often simultaneously.
Beyond the inner work, we are interested the point of contact and what Steve Paxton called "the third entity".
"The reason it’s called contact improvisation is because there is a third entity that arises in the state – it is the state of agreement between the two of you that neither one is leading. It doesn’t become leaderless, the two of you are leading.”
Steve Paxton, 1939-2024
That moment in the dance when something larger than the sum of me and you suddenly appears,
the moment we no longer know if it's me or you starting or moving here or there, yet we find ourselves moving somewhere together in seamless ways.
This is short summary of what we will be exploring during the workshop. If you feel the resonance of the words, don't hesitate to register as we have limited places.
Please feel free to bring your own questions and shape the weekend with us.
