Our work seeks to inspire dancers by investigating the core principles of contact improvisation, focusing on the skillful interplay of touch, movement, and imagination.
In this workshop, dancers develop physical intelligence and emotional resonance within contact improvisation. Physical intelligence is not about specific movements but the ability to solve emergent physical or creative situations or tasks that evolve in the dancing. This manifests differently in each person and includes the ability to provide mobile support, to organize your body to be lifted, to find fluid pathways into and out of the floor, and the ability to push, yield, and pull away from your partner. It involves the capacity to lightly compose one's responses within the moment.
We work with developing perceptual acuity-- the ability to hone in on what is significant to guide your movement, and attune to ourselves, others and the environment. It includes the ability to inhibit one’s choices and to imagine beyond the sensorial moment to include questions like, “What if we tried something different?” Or, “ What is missing here?”
