Second workshop in a series of 4 weekends on the essentials of contact improvisation, open to beginners, intermediates and experienced dancers, who have some physical training.

A dance form without copyright, sometimes described as a ‘martial art without the martial’, contact improvisation (CI) is constantly evolving and occupying more and more different social, artistic and community contexts. It's not always easy to find your way around!

My starting point here is that Contact Improvisation is a form of dance based on physics, touch, a spherical orientation (360*) and a wide range of attentions and sensations.

The aim of this series of workshops is to develop a small toolbox so that you can dance your own contact improvisation while sharing a common vocabulary; all in the aim to tinker, create, play and enjoy endlessly, including in the context of jamming - an open practice for contact improvisation.

For this second session of the year, I invite you to:

- taste and direct your footing and landing gears in the floor

- articulate your spine using shapes that roll across the floor and others that organise you in space

- develop a quality of elasticity and change your muscle and tissue tone

- understand and explore counterweight physically

- fall, alone and with one or more people

- practising a few contact exercises / games / ‘Old School’ improvisation (the empty hand, the forearm drop, the table, etc.)

Particular attention will be paid to approaching touch, the need to be one's own agent, consent, while keeping the focus on the dance.

Beginners are welcome at this workshop, but there will be something for everyone!

The same weekend there will be a jam on the Saturday evening at the same venue Pôle 164, to put these tools into practice if you wish...

This workshop is open to sportspeople, dancers, people who like to move but don't really like sport, artists, circus performers, the curious, construction workers, care workers or anyone who wants to feel their body through action and explore its possibilities, with or without a disability. To check this is for you, or if you have access or other needs, don't hesitate to get in touch and talk with me.
