In this workshop, we will investigate polarity in movement through the Feldenkrais Methods and Contact Improvisation, moving from inner toward outer awareness. With the Feldenkrais Method, we turn the attention inward to notice sensations without judgment. Honouring the body’s intelligence, we explore habits and discover new, efficient, and freer movement options. This mindful tuning cultivates a felt sense of wholeness that reshapes how we move, perceive, and relate — to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us.
We’ll explore how this embodied awareness evolves and transform as we engage with touch, shared weight. We will observe how we constantly encounter polarity in our movement, integrating and embracing opposing forces such as stability and mobility, tone and softness, freedom and structure, motion and stillness, control and surrender. By working with these dualities, we become aware of how opposites create balance.
The Contact Improvisation vocabulary— spiralling up and down, falling, catching, and lifting—will be nourished by specific technical material offered in the workshop, explored through the lens of opposites and oppositional movement. We then engage the full spectrum of opposing forces, embodying wild, instinctive, and unpredictable energy — exploring the tension between safety and risk. At the other end, we enter quiet, gentle physical dialogue shaped by subtle shifts in weight and stillness. Playing with gravity while riding momentum, our conscious choices will drift between both realms, unfolding through exciting duets, trios, and group configurations.
