Expanding Bodies

This proposal originated from our meetings of dances and practices, at the end of which we remained for a while immersed in a feeling of pleasure, maybe tired body but definitely happy. We wondered exactly what generates that state, what qualities of movement we encounter when we meet and which create this mixture. In this workshop we share what has emerged from our research so far.

In this workshop we bring together contact improvisation, qi gong, martial practices of Chinese internal styles, improvisation and practices of self and partner observation. 

Description of the Workshop

A journey of exploration through the substance of our bodies, of our matter with a dense, viscous touch and movement that enters into the body mass to adhere, access deeper layers, go together, but also go against, offering limits and resistance - without ever becoming hard or rigid, and leaving a void in a space of relationship that is, however, always alive.

Expanded, three-dimensional bodies, subtle and dense materials together, where the sophisticated quality of the hand's touch extends to the whole body and embraces the emotions and essence of myself and others.

Cultivating a state of permeability of one's being, giving oneself the possibility of accessing states of intimacy and vulnerability.

And from there rediscover a more instinctive and wild dimension, deeply connected to the search for pleasure through movement that belongs to us by nature.

A deep contact and a sincere encounter, in which we can also become aware of those patterns and taboos that lead us to automatism and boredom. 

Stripping ourselves of habit, cultivating a state of presence that allows us to raise the level of 'risk' and the breaking of patterns and repetition that take us away from listening and being in the here and now.

Discovering new possible paths towards a more authentic co-creation in dance.

BIO 🧬
Elisa Ghion Savino
Since 2005 she has studied Contact Improvisation and improvisation with many international teachers, including Nancy Stark Smith, Martin Keogh, Ray Chung, Roberto Lun, Julyien Hamilton, Claire Fillmore. She conducts body awareness trainings for actors; she creates paths addressed to any human being who wishes to rediscover a dialogue with his/her own body.

In 2018, she founded CorPoetica ASD, a reality that investigates the body and movement as an artistic tool, for personal growth and self-awareness. Since 2020, she has been teaching Contact Improvisation at the professional dance academy Artemente (Milan).

Silva Rosmarie Lanz

Graduated in Languages, she has studied language through the perspective of neuroscience, in her interest in the relationship between body, mind and emotions, which is also a common thread in her study of body disciplines. 

Since her adolescence, she has practiced martial and energy disciplines such as Tai ji quan, Qi gong, Yi Quan and has been holding regular courses in Genoa for over 14 years. She obtained her first level of teacher training in Hatha Yoga, and continues her training and further studies in Yin Yoga, with a particular focus on topics such as fascia, anatomy and functional movement.

From 2006 she studied contemporary dance with Aline Nari and other choreographers in Genoa for several years, before getting to know Contact Improvisation in 2011, with which she fell in love. Since then, she has been constantly studying Contact Improvisation with various teachers.

Those who need a ride from the Padua station are invited to communicate this during registration, so as to facilitate the organization of car sharing.

SLEEP 🛏️ 

We happily offer free hospitality on Friday and Saturday nights in our homes. If hospitality is needed for other nights, please let us know by writing to us.

FOOD 🥙

All participants are invited to contribute with good food, drinks and delicacies of their choice in order to co-create beautiful shared meals (2 lunches and 1 dinner).

SPA 🌊

At the end of the workshop we will go to the thermal baths of the nearby Euganean Hills to relax our bodies following the many dances. Participation is highly recommended by the organization, but optional, and has an additional cost of about € 20 (the price is not included in the registration).
