Rosalind Holgate Smith

My name is Rosalind, I am a Dance Artist and Choreographer. I create performances, immersive installations and visual art that investigate intimate experiences and ancestral connections between people and the environment. I am interested in the growth and movement patterns of other animals, organisms and life forms and what its like to embody biological patterns including other than human spaces and times. My work involves touch and sensual-attentional training practices, informed by my engagement with Contact Improvisation and Somatic practices including Body-Mind Centering, Authentic Movement and dance outdoors, on land and in water. I completed a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at DeMontfort University, a BA(hons) degree in Fine Art & Choreography at Dartington College of Arts and Falmouth University and a Masters Degree in Dance at Trinity Laban. I am currently a PhD Techne scholarship student in Dance at Kingston University where I am investigating touch as an encounter with Otherness. My project builds on the language of touch used in Contact Improvisation, exploring the depth, tone and density of contact with human and non-human matter.
