Contact Improvisation 2 day Intensive with Manuel Rochette

⁍ABOUT THE WORKSHOP⁌

“ The Softness of Risk”

This workshop is for dancers wanting to deepen the practice of CI and investigate skills that may take their dances to new levels.
Contact improvisation doesn’t come without risks. Some would even say that it is the point of the practice and that it help to cultivate novelty, courage and a sense of relentless presence. It’s with risk that we let go of the seemingly precious esthetics to focus on what’s really important: trust and resilience in our capacity to survive the moment.
In this workshop we'll first establish a safe connection with each other and the floor to then explore dynamic level changes, falling, flying, opening into back space, using hands as feet, trios as well as more in depth floor patterning. Finding less travelled pathways, leaning into risks, embracing the inevitable collapse; and making it graceful, playful and tasteful.

⁍BIO⁌
Manuel Rochette is a dancer, facilitator, and host of Salt Spring Island Contact Improvisation Festival in Canada. With more than 15 years of experience, his personal studies got him closer to teachers such as Martin Keogh, Angelika Doniy, Alicia Grayson, Karl Frost, Ray Chung, Scott Wells, Vega Luukkonen, Kira Kirsch, Paul Singh, Andrew Harwood and more.
His facilitation approach creates an attentive container where skills, states and group spontaneous composition emerges. Curiosities of the moment: accessing polycentricity, how to increase availability and generosity with the body, opening the backspace, falling together, and continuity of movement. He regularly explores the world of dancing and is an avid jammer while he continues to deepen the practice in classes and workshops.
Manuel is also a DJ and a gardener from which he sources inspirations and metaphors.
