IRENE SPOSETTI

Irene Sposetti, a versatile performing artist, facilitator, and dancemaker originally from Italy, has cultivated a rich artistic journey over more than two decades as an independent freelancer across Europe, Asia, and North America. She has developed a distinctive voice through extensive travel, cultural immersion, and a profound exploration of the body and movement as a path of self-inquiry, presence, and creative expression. Irene specializes in offering and producing dance training, events, and performances across esteemed institutions such as universities, companies, cultural institutes, festivals, and independent platforms. Her work has reached audiences across the globe and reflects her distinctive and diverse experiences as a passionate explorer and artist.

In 2011, Irene founded BEING MOTION, a platform dedicated to collaborating on educational and artistic projects globally. Through BEING MOTION, she has been instrumental in producing international dance training programs and performances at universities, festivals, and independent platforms worldwide. Her work focuses on movement research with a somatic and functional approach and real-time practice, often blending with voice and live music.

Irene is dedicated to nurturing authentic, embodied expression, creative empowerment, and independent thinking as tools to fully embody and manifest oneself in the world and in connection with others.

She has a particular interest in researching and refining the embodiment of movement biomechanics through the understanding of physical principles and explorative learning processes, promoting conscious and effortless movement while enhancing technical and creative skills.

She is interested in the “synergy of togetherness”,

the relational, communicative, and creative aspects of contact improvisation, partnering, and group dancing.

Furthermore, Irene delves into the somatic, psychological, and relational transformative impacts of dance. Her exploration extends to understanding how the practice heightens self-awareness, breaks down conditioning, instills a sense of empowerment, and contributes to overall well-being.

A significant focus of Irene's work lies in the research and practice of Contact Improvisation (CI). She has been a pivotal figure in fostering CI communities and organizing events, particularly in China and India. Her involvement spans teaching, organizing dance gatherings, and promoting the developmental aspects of CI globally. Irene's commitment to CI is underscored by her continuous participation in international gatherings, where she explores its evolving principles and applications.

Beyond her contributions to CI, Irene's real-time composition performances integrate live music and voice, exploring the evocative power of sound, words, and music in dance. Her repertoire includes works in theaters, educational projects, festivals, and site-specific settings worldwide. She also engages in ongoing research into Argentine Tango, developing new somatic and creative approaches to its practice.

Her artistic philosophy emphasizes the synergy between movement, self-awareness, and environmental awareness, aiming to foster greater authenticity and balance both individually and collectively.
