STARTING FROM SCRATCH – DANCING WITH A BEGINNERS MINDSET
This playful and informative 3 day workshop is an opportunity to practice (if you are new to Contact Improvisation), or rediscover (if you’ve been at it for awhile), the joy of dancing with the Open Mind of a Beginner. You are invited to come and build new Contact Skills or augment old ones by practicing “not knowing” while engaging your body’s natural intelligence in the delightful partner dance that is CI.
Let’s start from scratch, emphasizing wonder and curiosity, while experimenting with duets, trios, a score or two, and tried-and-true CI foundational favorites like:
Weight Sharing
Differing Qualities of Contact
Using 360° Space
Small Rides
Choice Points
Playing with variations in tempo, focus and force
Being True to Yourself in your dance by checking in with your felt sense of “right now”
Springboarding from these fundamental concepts and skills, we will explore ways to lead with curiosity, seek out contrasts for the fun of it, and challenge ourselves to remain open minded, spontaneous, and adaptable in the dance.
All levels are welcome! (A beginners mindset encouraged.)
